Oetz is consired to be the Meranof northern Tyrol ...
... the traditional holiday village - for winter holidays as well as for summer holidays - is situated in the front part of the Oetz valley between two mountain ranges. Due to the valley position next to the mountain Acherkogel (3007m) Oetz has an especially mild climate (we even used to grow wine in Oetz). In the village you will find several lakes (Piburg, Oetzerau, Oetzerberg etc). The Oetztaler stream flows through the village and thus Oetz is starting point for the rafting championships.
The holiday village Oetz is only 7km away from the Oetztal station (Inntal motorway). It is a sunny valley which is protected from the cold winds by the mountain Tschirgant and also from the warm wind (called Foen) by the Acherkogel. Fruit gardens with peach trees and even chestnuts grow in Oetz. The old village centre invites our guests to go sightseeing. If you gently stroll in the direction of the church which is situated on a hill above the village, you can see nice historic houses and the tower museum which is always worth a visit.
History and tradition are carefully treated in Oetz. Vivid tradition, happy fests and a varied entertainment programs offer us a lot of variety and entertainment.
Always worth a visit ...
... late-gothic church (1667), in 1743/44 renovated and now it includes baroque elements. The altar shows a picture of St Martin (1683) as well as carvings and figures. The baroque Antinius church in the Au, the chapel on the Kalvarienberg (hill) were built at the end of the 17th century.
The local inn with façade paintings (1573) and the old farmhouse Oberinntal and the local museum as well as the gallery "Zum alten Oetztal" are interesting sights. Furthermore there is the lake Piburg, the gorge in Au, the waterfall in Stuiben and the waterfall at the Tumpen river.
A few words to the history of Oetz ...
... first hints from the Hallstatt times prove that people lived here already 2000 years ago. The name "Ez" has first been mentioned in a gift contract by duke Heinrich the Lion to the convent Wilten. As the whole valley Oetz belonged to the court in Petersberg next to Silz which belonged to duke Meinhard II (1266-1267). Oetz was "Dingstatt" (place of the court) for the whole Oetz valley and thus the valley was named after the village. On Oetz as well as Umhausen flax was grown from the 17th century onwards till the 20th century. By the end of the 19th century Oetz has started to develop into a tourist village.
The nature reserve Piburger lake ...
... is a popular area. The lake is 800m long, 250m wide and 25m deep. It is the result of a movement of mountains.
The first time the lake was mentioned was in 1282 when duke Meinhard II gave the lake together with the villa Piburg to the convent Stams. In 1860 the convent bought the lake. In 1980 the village Oetz bought the lake and built a swimming grounds and a part for boats.
Hiking in all different altitudes ...
... between the altitude of 800m and 3,000m you will find various hiking paths. Enjoy the sunshine and go walking or hiking. Oetz offers a lot for every different hobby. Either you like it sportive or relaxing.
In summer the landlord guides you to the most beautiful places every week. Of course this will be a unforgettable event and you will also enjoy a great traditional snack.
Alpine region Hoch-Oetz at 2.020m ...
... with so many possibilities you can enjoy your freedom to do whatever you want. Without any strain you can reach to most beautiful alpine pastures with a cable car. The Bielefelder pasture, Balbach pasture, Kühtai pasture or Acherberg pasure invite you to enjoy the marvellous view onto our mountains.
Another speciality is the meditation path and the "miner's"path in the middle of the alpine region Hochoetz. The latter leads you from Hochoetz to the Ochsengarden and the Kuethai (and back) into a landscape in which qualified miners used to quarry copper gravel, ore and plumbum. At an altitude of 2,500m up to 400 miners were working and transporting the ore with the help of oxes into the valley. This fact probably led to the name of the pond "Ochsen"-ox garden.
The alpine path leads you from the alpine restaurant Hochoetz to the Bielefelder pasture to the Wetterkreuz. From there a path guides you to the Wörgetal and the originally reconstructed miner's house where you can see the stone mill with which they used to process the ore. From this point onwards you can go to the Iss pasture and then to the Balbach pasture. The last point is the Kuethai pasture and the you can conclude the tour. The alpine region does not only offer interesting, long tours but also nice walking paths for elder people and for families. You see: Oetz, Ochsengarden and the Kuethai are the perfect hiking and walking paradise!
